The Power of " I AM "
Around the world, consumers, financial compliance officers and regulators are demanding higher standards of behavior. Professional ethics dictate that we recommend a course of action to our clients we would accept ourselves. However to come up with recommendations, we have to do a lot of preliminary research. A physician does not establish a treatment plan without first arriving at a diagnosis. An architect does not draw up a blueprint without a thorough understanding of the needs of the future tenants and the land on which the building will be erected. What we do requires expertise and a thorough understanding of financial services.
In my experience so far in this noble profession, I realize that I have a lot in common, with the amazing people, that I am privileged to be introduced to. We all want three things in any business transaction.
#1 A solution to our problems.
#2 An experience that feels good.
#3 Certainty.
In Today’s sophisticated marketplace, people do not buy what they don’t understand. Most individuals do not understand how much insurance is enough, relative to the *Rule of Thumb*.
If we think back to our early childhood, through our schooling and even now as adults, we have learnt, understood and accepted that we are required to drink between 8-10 glasses of water per day. We know the medical findings and recommendations for that amount of daily consumption. More importantly, we also know the consequences, if we consume less than, what is medically required over an extended period of time.
The same applies for Insurance planning. There is a similar *Rule of Thumb* that I teach all my clients, regardless of their income or profession, so that each person knows exactly what is *required* to participate in their own rescue.
You see, when a person runs out of money in retirement, unable to pay their bills in the event of a sudden disability, or prolonged illness, unable to send their child abroad to university to study, and unable to sustain the lifestyle of their family due to the sudden demise of the main breadwinner, the *rule of thumb* was not adhered to correctly from the start.
Lets fix this and make Insurance planning easier for everyone to understand from the very beginning.
